The upcoming anime film “100 Meters” (Hyakuemu), based on Uoto’s sports manga, has unveiled ten additional cast members, further enriching its roster of voice talent. The film, which held its world premiere at Annecy on June 12, is slated for a Japanese theatrical release on September 19, with GKIDS bringing it to North American cinemas in October.
The newly announced cast members and their roles are:
- Jun Kasama as Nigami, a teammate of protagonist Togashi.
- Rie Takahashi as Asakusa, a high school girl who invites Togashi to join the track team.
- Yuki Tanaka as Shiina, a high school girl on the team.
- Atsumi Tanezaki as young Togashi, during his elementary school years.
- Aoi Yūki as young Komiya, also in his elementary school days.
- Yūma Uchida as Kabanoki, an aspiring world-class runner.
- Junya Enoki as Numano, a team member from Komiya’s high school.
- Haruki Ishiya as Kyōden, the team captain during Komiya’s high school years.
- Hiiro Ishibashi as Morikawa, an athlete who looks up to Togashi.
- Tomokazu Sugita as Onomichi.
These additions join the previously announced main cast, which includes Tori Matsuzaka as the gifted runner Togashi, and Shōta Sometani as Komiya, a diligent runner whose passion for the 100-meter dash stems from his encounter with Togashi. Other previously revealed cast members include Kōki Uchiyama as Saizu and Kenjirō Tsuda as Kaidō.
The “100 Meters” anime film is directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for “ON-GAKU: Our Sound,” at Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain studio. Yasuyuki Mutō is penning the script, while Keisuke Kojima serves as character designer and chief animation director. The art direction is handled by Keikankun Yamaguchi, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi is composing the music. The film’s production credits go to Pony Canyon, TBS TV, and ASMIK Ace.
The narrative of “100 Meters” centers on Togashi, a naturally gifted track star who effortlessly wins races in his youth. His path intersects with Komiya, a determined but less skilled transfer student. Togashi’s guidance ignites a new purpose in Komiya: to win at all costs. Years later, the two reunite as rivals on the track, where their true selves are revealed in their pursuit of victory in the intense 100-meter sprint.
