The upcoming anime film 100 Meters (also known as Hyakuemu), adapted from Uoto’s sports manga, has released a new character trailer that spotlights five of its main cast members. The video offers a closer look at the personalities and running prowess of protagonists Togashi and Komiya, alongside fellow athletes Nigami, Zaitsu, and Kaido. The film is slated to premiere in Japan on September 19, 2025, with North American theatrical release scheduled for October 2025.
A Glimpse at the Main Characters
The recently released character trailer puts a focus on five pivotal figures central to the narrative of 100 Meters. These characters are:
Togashi
Voiced by Tori Matsuzaka, Togashi is introduced as a track star with innate talent, effortlessly winning 100-meter races from a young age. His natural gifting sets the stage for his journey and eventual rivalry.
Komiya
Shota Sometani lends his voice to Komiya, a transfer student Togashi meets in sixth grade. While lacking Togashi’s natural ability, Komiya possesses an unshakeable determination, finding a new purpose in running through Togashi’s mentorship. The film explores how this dynamic relationship evolves into a rivalry.
Nigami
Jun Kasama voices Nigami, who is described as Togashi’s teammate. His journey reportedly includes struggling with younger generations catching up to him, adding a layer of melancholy to his character arc.
Zaitsu (Saizu)
Koki Uchiyama takes on the role of Zaitsu (sometimes romanized as Saizu). While specific details about his character within the new video are not extensively detailed in the search results, he is presented as one of the key athletes highlighted.
Kaido
Veteran voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda voices the character Kaido. His role in the competitive world of the film’s track and field narrative is also emphasized in the character highlight video.
Story of Rivalry and Purpose
The 100 Meters film chronicles the compelling journey of Togashi and Komiya. Togashi, a natural prodigy in sprinting, dominates early in his life. However, his encounter with Komiya, a determined but less naturally gifted runner, shifts their paths. Togashi’s decision to mentor Komiya inadvertently ignites a fire within Komiya, pushing him to win at all costs. Years later, the two reunite on the track, not as friends, but as formidable rivals, where they are compelled to confront their true selves and the motivations behind their relentless pursuit of speed.
The narrative is based on Uoto’s manga, which was serialized online via Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket from November 2018 to August 2019.

The anime film is directed by Kenji Iwaisawa, known for his work on ON-GAKU: Our Sound, and is produced by Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain. The film’s theme song, “Rashisa,” is performed by Official Hige Dandism and is featured in earlier trailers.
100 Meters first held its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2024 as a “work in progress,” before its official Japanese release date of September 19, 2025. For North American audiences, GKIDS has licensed the film and plans a theatrical release in October 2025.
