The popular 3-Nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-Sensei spinoff novels are set to receive a full-color, vertical-scrolling manga adaptation on Shueisha’s Jump TOON platform, titled 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei Touuunn!!, launching on October 6. This new adaptation brings the comedic high school antics of Ginpachi Sakata and his eccentric students to a modern digital format.
A New Digital Era for Ginpachi-Sensei
Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced the upcoming vertical-scrolling manga, which will be released on Jump TOON. Ao Suzumemura is credited with the storyboard for the adaptation, while Yūki Aonuma is handling the drawing. The full-color, vertical-scrolling format is designed to enhance the reading experience on mobile devices, aligning with contemporary digital comic trends.
The Enduring Appeal of 3-Nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-Sensei
The 3-Nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-Sensei novel series is a spinoff of Hideaki Sorachi’s acclaimed Gintama manga. Written by Tomohito Ōsaki, these novels envision the iconic Gintoki Sakata as a high school teacher named Ginpachi Sakata, leading a class of unique and often delinquent students at Gintama High School. The story, which first debuted in 2006, parodies the well-known Japanese drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei. The concept of Ginpachi-sensei has previously been animated as shorts at the end of several Gintama anime series episodes, further solidifying its place in the franchise’s lore.
Jump TOON: Shueisha’s Venture into Vertical Comics
Jump TOON is Shueisha’s innovative vertical-scrolling platform, launched to compete in the growing market of webtoons, which are particularly popular among mobile-first audiences. The platform aims to offer a different reading experience from traditional right-to-left, black-and-white manga by presenting stories in full color and a vertical format. Since its launch, Jump TOON has introduced a variety of new titles and full-color adaptations of existing manga, including Kaiju No. 8. This move signifies Shueisha’s commitment to adapting to evolving manga consumption habits and expanding its digital presence.
An Expanding Universe: Anime and New Novels
The 3-Nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-Sensei universe is experiencing a significant expansion beyond this new manga adaptation. A dedicated anime adaptation of the novels is also set to premiere on TV Tokyo on October 6, 2025 (effectively, October 7 JST), as part of a multi-year 20th-anniversary project for the Gintama franchise. Furthermore, a new novel volume in the series, titled Oide yo Rinkan Gakkō (Going on a School Camp), will be published by Shueisha on October 3. These multiple adaptations and new releases highlight the enduring popularity and continued growth of the Ginpachi-Sensei spinoff.
