Disney+ Japan has announced the main voice cast returning for the highly anticipated first season of the Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation project. The anime, based on the popular mobile game, is set to premiere in October 2025 and will adapt the game’s storyline across three seasons. The first season will focus on the “Episode of Heartslabyul” arc.

Returning Voice Actors

The main cast from the original game will reprise their roles, ensuring a familiar experience for long-time fans. Here’s the list of the confirmed voice actors and their respective characters for the first season:

  • Natsuki Hanae as Riddle Rosehearts
  • Seiichirō Yamashita as Ace Trappola
  • Chiaki Kobayashi as Deuce Spade
  • Ryōta Suzuki as Trey Clover
  • Tatsuyuki Kobayashi as Cater Diamond
  • Mitsuru Miyamoto as Dire Crowley
  • Noriaki Sugiyama as Grim

This announcement has generated excitement among fans who are eager to see these characters brought to life in animation with their familiar voices.

Production and Release

The anime series is being produced by Yumeta Company and Graphinica, with Takahiro Natori serving as chief director and series script supervisor. Shin Katagai is directing the series, and Yoichi Kato is credited as the main writer. Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō are responsible for the character designs, adapting the original designs by Yana Toboso, the creator of Black Butler.

The first season, “Episode of Heartslabyul,” will be followed by “Episode of Savanaclaw” and “Episode of Octavinelle” in subsequent seasons, though specific release dates for those are yet to be announced. The series will be available exclusively on Disney+.

What is Disney Twisted-Wonderland?

Disney Twisted-Wonderland is a popular Japanese mobile game that launched in March 2020. The game’s concept, scenario, and character designs are by Yana Toboso, known for the Black Butler manga series. It’s described as a “villains academy adventure game” that incorporates rhythm game elements and battles.

The game revolves around characters inspired by iconic Disney villains. Players are summoned to Twisted Wonderland through a magic mirror and find themselves enrolled in Night Raven College, a prestigious arcane academy. The story follows the player’s journey as they interact with the students, each representing a different Disney villain, and search for a way back home.

The game’s unique concept and engaging gameplay have garnered significant popularity, winning several awards, including the “Google Play Best of 2020” Creative Award and the “#Twitter Trend Award (now #XTrendAward) 2020” in the game category.

The World of Twisted-Wonderland

The game is set in a world where each of the seven dorms are based on a different Disney film:

  • Heartslabyul: Inspired by Alice in Wonderland.
  • Savanaclaw: Inspired by The Lion King.
  • Octavinelle: Inspired by The Little Mermaid.
  • Scarabia: Inspired by Aladdin.
  • Pomefiore: Inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
  • Ignihyde: Inspired by Hercules.
  • Diasomnia: Inspired by Sleeping Beauty.

Each dorm has its own unique aesthetic, student body, and challenges, contributing to the rich and varied world of the game.

Anime Adaptation Details

The anime adaptation will bring the vibrant world of Twisted-Wonderland to life on screen. The series is structured into three seasons, each focusing on a specific story arc from the game. This approach allows the anime to fully explore the narrative and characters within each dorm.

The first season’s focus on the “Episode of Heartslabyul” means fans can expect a detailed exploration of the characters from that dorm, led by the strict Riddle Rosehearts. The return of the original voice cast is crucial in maintaining the authentic feel of the series.

Production Team

The production team is composed of seasoned anime professionals:

  • Chief Director and Series Script Supervisor: Takahiro Natori, known for his work on Aria the Benedizione and Tokyo Mew Mew New.
  • Director: Shin Katagai, who has worked on The Ossan Newbie Adventurer.
  • Main Writer: Yoichi Kato, whose credits include Space Brothers and Aikatsu!.
  • Character Designers: Hanaka Nakano and Akane Satō.

The collaboration between these talents is expected to produce a high-quality anime adaptation that honors the source material while providing a fresh perspective.

AnimeJapan 2025

In addition to the voice cast announcement, it has been revealed that the original game will have a stage presentation at AnimeJapan 2025 on March 22, followed by a stage presentation for the anime on the same day. These events will provide fans with additional opportunities to engage with the franchise and learn more about the upcoming anime.

Anticipation for the Anime

The announcement of the Twisted-Wonderland anime has been met with great enthusiasm from fans worldwide. The combination of the popular game’s storyline, well-known voice actors, and experienced production team makes this a highly anticipated release. The anime adaptation also provides a new avenue for fans to experience the world of Twisted-Wonderland.

The series’ exclusive premiere on Disney+ will introduce the franchise to a wider global audience. With a dedicated fanbase already in place, the Twisted-Wonderland anime is poised to become a significant hit in the anime landscape. The three-season structure ensures that the intricate storylines and character development will be fully explored.
