About Once Upon a Witch’s Death
Once Upon a Witch’s Death is an anime series adapted from the light novel series written by Saka and illustrated by Chorefuji. ASCII Media Works has been publishing the light novels since September 2021. The series also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Kenu Amearare.
Story
The story follows Meg Raspberry, an apprentice witch who discovers on her 17th birthday that she only has one year to live. Her teacher, Faust, a long-lived witch, explains that Meg is under a death curse. The only way to break the curse is to collect tears of joy from 1,000 people to create the Seed of Life. To accomplish this, Meg must leave her sheltered life and venture into the world, encountering new people, friendships, and many emotional moments.
Production
Atsushi Nigorikawa (A Destructive God Sits Next to Me, Beast Tamer) is directing the anime at EMT Squared. Keiichiro Ochi (Adachi and Shimamura, The Quintessential Quintuplets) is supervising the series scripts. Yuki Shizuku (Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout) is adapting Chorefuji’s character designs for animation, and Akiyuki Tateyama (The Elusive Samurai) is composing the music.
