Etorouji Shiono’s dark fantasy manga Übel Blatt has finally received an English dub for its anime adaptation. All 12 episodes are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Übel Blatt?
Übel Blatt is a dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Etorouji Shiono. The series is known for its intricate plot, complex characters, and brutal action sequences. It originally began serialization in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in 2004. Following a brief hiatus, the main series returned in Big Gangan magazine in 2011, concluding with its 23rd compiled volume in June 2019. Yen Press has released the entire series in English, including a 3-in-1 omnibus edition. In February 2024, Shiono launched a sequel manga titled Übel Blatt II: The Knights of the Deceased King in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine.
Anime Adaptation
The anime adaptation of Übel Blatt debuted in Japan on January 10, 2025, on Tokyo MX, and was streamed weekly on Amazon Prime Video.
Storyline
Rumors spread throughout the land about a wielder of a black sword whose dark blade cuts down anyone in its path. Köinzell, a mysterious young boy carrying the black sword, possesses exceptional skill. However, is he truly responsible for the bloody rumors? Pursued by the Traitorous Lances, powerful warriors thought to have been defeated by the Seven Heroes, Köinzell’s strength is tested to its limit. Ultimately, the shocking truth of Köinzell’s quest will be revealed.
