Yen Press has unveiled a slate of new manga and light novel licenses, promising a diverse range of stories for fans to look forward to in 2025. These announcements, made at Sakura-Con 2025, include a mix of manga and novels spanning various genres, from romance and fantasy to supernatural and boys love. Let’s dive into some of the exciting new titles coming our way.
A Sweet Deal: Yankee & Carameliser
Yankee & Carameliser, created by Chiuko Umeshibu, is a boys love manga that blends the contrasting worlds of a “bad boy extraordinaire” and a social media influencer.
The story revolves around Maki, who might have a tough exterior, but is as sweet as the desserts posted all over his social media. Akito, drawn to Maki’s irresistible goodies, finds himself wanting a taste of the man himself.
Yankee & Carameliser has been serialized in B’s-LOVEY recottia and is already available in English thanks to 2nd Life Scans.
Magical Midlifer: Mystical Maidens and Middle-Aged Men
Magical Midlifer (Mahō Chūnen) comes from the minds of Maki (story) and Nemumi Haiba (art). This manga offers a unique twist on the magical girl genre.
The story explores the hidden side of the flashy spectacle of mass-marketable entertainment, where youthful protectors are shielded by grizzled middle-aged men when the villains become too gruesome for Saturday morning cartoons. These “old farts” use their wealth of experience and magic to support the mystical maidens from the shadows.
Island of Mystery: Monster-Colored Island
Monster-Colored Island (Kaijū-iro no Shima) is a manga created by Mitsuru Hattori, weaving a tale of coming-of-age, fantasy, and yuri elements.
Kon Chigawa, a middle school student who has never left her small island and is shunned by her classmates, encounters Furuka, a city girl, on a cliff. After they fall into the ocean, Kon resuscitates Furuka, and they mysteriously find themselves in front of a cave said to house monsters. Strange occurrences begin to unfold on the island, drawing the two girls closer. Monster-Colored Island began serialization in Young Dragon Age magazine in September 2018, with two tankōbon volumes released as of March 2024. An animated promotional video was also released in March 2021.
