The upcoming anime film, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, has revealed that Sachiko Kobayashi will be performing the ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (Our Days). The film is slated to debut in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025.

A New Chapter for Kobayashi and Dragons

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved is the first theatrical outing for the popular anime series. The film promises to deliver the same heartwarming moments and comedy that fans have come to adore, while also exploring themes of acceptance, identity, and emotional connection.

Production Details

The film is directed by Tatsuya Ishihara (known for Sound! Euphonium and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S) at Kyoto Animation. The script is penned by Yuka Yamada, with character designs and chief animation direction by Miku Kadowaki. The late Yasuhiro Takemoto is credited as series director.

Returning Cast

Many beloved voice actors are reprising their roles, including:

  • Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi
  • Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru
  • Maria Naganawa as Kanna
  • Yūki Takada as Elma
  • Minami Takahashi as Lucoa
  • Daisuke Ono as Fafnir
  • Yūichi Nakamura as Makoto Takiya
  • Emiri Katō as Riko Saikawa
  • Kaori Ishihara as Shōta Magatsuchi

New Faces

The film also introduces new characters:

  • Fumihiko Tachiki as Kimun Kamui
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad
  • Shiori Sugiura as Ilulu (replacing Tomomi Mineuchi, who retired from voice acting in 2022)

Music to Enchant

Music plays a significant role in the film. Alongside Sachiko Kobayashi’s ending theme, fhána performs the opening theme song “Namida no Parade” (Parade of Tears), and kotringo provides the insert song “Negaigoto” (Wish). Maria Naganawa, as Kanna, will also perform a version of the ending theme.

What’s the Story About?

Miss Kobayashi, an average office worker, lives a mundane life until she saves a dragon named Tohru. Tohru, capable of transforming into an adorable human girl, becomes Kobayashi’s roommate to repay her debt. Together, along with other dragons, they form a strange, loving, and chaotic family.

The movie’s title, A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved, hints at new emotional depths for the characters. A mysterious new villain is set to add tension and drive the characters’ growth.

Where to Catch Up

Both seasons of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, along with a set of short episodes, are available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Release Details

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to Be Loved will premiere in 199 theaters across Japan on June 27, 2025. It will also be available in immersive 4DX and MX4D screenings.
