Fire Force Season 3 Episode 9, titled “Holy Sword, Resurrected,” delivers a mix of Arthur’s signature delusions, surprising family revelations, and a step forward in Shinra’s journey to understand Adolla. Released on May 30th and 31st, 2025, depending on the time zone, this episode bridges the gap between humor and the overarching plot, setting the stage for the anime’s endgame.

Arthur’s Misguided Nether Adventure

The episode revolves heavily around Arthur Boyle and his unwavering quest to reforge Excalibur. Driven by his knightly delusions, Arthur believes that Orichalcum, the perfect metal for his sword, lies within the Nether. Despite Vulcan’s attempts to dissuade him and clear indications on the map pointing elsewhere, Arthur, accompanied by Vulcan, Lisa, and Yu, ventures into the dangerous underground.

Delusions and Determination

Arthur’s commitment to his knightly persona is highlighted by his refusal to help a little girl retrieve her cat from a tree, stating he’s too busy with his “main quest” to engage in “side quests”. This scene perfectly encapsulates Arthur’s character and sets the tone for his misguided adventure into the Nether.

Discoveries in the Darkness

While exploring the Nether, the group stumbles upon a surprising discovery: Arthur’s long-lost parents. They reveal that they have been living in the Nether since they abandoned Arthur, fleeing from debt collectors. They also reveal they have had three more children while living in the Nether. Despite their questionable parenting, Arthur remains unfazed and continues to see them as heroic figures.

A New Excalibur

By pure coincidence, Arthur’s parents provide him with a piece of heat-resistant rocket debris they had been collecting. Recognizing its potential, Vulcan uses it to forge a new Excalibur for Arthur. This new sword possesses heat-resistant qualities, potentially making Arthur more powerful than ever before.

Shinra’s Adolla Link

Meanwhile, the episode shifts its focus to Shinra Kusakabe, who is determined to become stronger after the loss of Leonard Burns. Seeking to understand Adolla and connect with his brother Sho, Shinra seeks guidance from Lieutenant Konro Sagamiya about initiating an Adolla Link.

Training with Benimaru

Shinra is then recommended to Shinmon Benimaru for advice, who begins teaching him the proper method to achieve an Adolla Link through concentrated meditation. Initially skeptical, Shinra quickly finds Benimaru’s teachings to be effective.

Reuniting with Sho

Through Benimaru’s training, Shinra manages to enter the Adolla Dimension, where he finally reconnects with his younger brother, Sho. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Shinra calling out to Sho, who recognizes him as his big brother.

Key Takeaways

  • Arthur’s Parents’ Return: The episode finally reveals the fate of Arthur’s parents, explaining their abandonment and their current life in the Nether. They provide Arthur with the material needed for his new Excalibur, further fueling his knightly delusions.
  • Shinra’s Progress: Shinra takes a significant step in his journey to understand Adolla and connect with Sho by training with Benimaru and successfully initiating an Adolla Link.
  • Balancing Humor and Plot: Episode 9 skillfully blends comedic moments with important plot developments, advancing both Arthur’s personal quest and Shinra’s overarching mission.

Where to Watch

“Fire Force” Season 3 Episode 9 is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Final Thoughts
