“Nyaight of the Living Cat” Unleashes New Purr-emieres!

The upcoming anime adaptation of Hawkman and Mecha-Roots’ horror-comedy manga, “Night of the Living Cat” (also known as “Nyaight of the Living Cat”), has dropped a new video, revealing additional cast members, theme songs, and its official premiere date. Get ready for a “nyandemic” like no other when the series debuts in July 2025!

Premiere Date and Streaming Details

Mark your calendars, cat lovers! “Nyaight of the Living Cat” will first premiere on the Abema Premium streaming service on July 6, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. (JST), which is 10:00 a.m. EDT. Following its streaming debut, the anime will air on TV Tokyo on July 7 (effectively July 8 at 2:00 a.m. JST), and will also be available on BS TV Tokyo, TV Hokkaido, and Animax, as well as other streaming services.

For international viewers, Crunchyroll will begin streaming the anime on July 6 in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Macau. Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle distribution in Asia and Japan.

New Theme Songs Revealed

Adding to the excitement, the new promotional video unveils the anime’s theme songs. Rock band THE YELLOW MONKEY is contributing the opening theme with their new song “Cat City”. On the flip side, punk rock band WANIMA will provide the ending theme with their song “Matatabi”.

The anime will also feature the titular theme song “Nyaight of the Living Cat,” composed by Kōji Endō, featuring guitar work by the legendary Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth) and “death voice” vocals by Heidi Shepherd of Butcher Babies. The lyrics for this track are penned by Ayuko Saito.

Story Synopsis

“Nyaight of the Living Cat” presents a unique take on the zombie apocalypse, but with a feline twist. In the year 20XX, the world is overrun by cats, and a virus is turning anyone who touches a cat into a cat. As cats rub against people, transforming them into felines, humanity must fight their urge to pet these adorable creatures to survive in this cat-ridden world.

Manga Origins

The original manga series is written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots. It has been serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden since October 2020. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English-language version of the manga under the title “Night of the Living Cat”.

  • Anime Expo: The first episode of “Nyaight of the Living Cat” will be screened early at Anime Expo on July 3 on the Crunchyroll Stage in the JW Marriott.
