The legendary Lupin the 3rd is back with a brand new anime film, Lupin the IIIrd: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku (“The Immortal Bloodline”), set to premiere in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025. A character introduction trailer has been released, exciting fans worldwide. This film marks a significant milestone as the first main 2D animated feature film in the Lupin the 3rd franchise in nearly 30 years, since 1996’s Lupin the 3rd: Dead or Alive.
A Mysterious Island and an Elusive Treasure
In Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, Lupin and his gang embark on a thrilling adventure to a mysterious, unmarked island in search of a great treasure. However, they soon find themselves facing tremendous challenges, hinting at a formidable adversary awaiting them.
New Faces Join the Adventure
Alongside the familiar faces of Lupin’s crew, two new characters have been introduced:
- Muomu: Voiced by Ainosuke Kataoka.
- Sarifa: Voiced by Aoi Morikawa.
These new additions promise to bring fresh dynamics to the story.

Production Details
Fujimi no Ketsuzoku is directed by Takeshi Koike, known for his stylish and action-packed direction in previous Lupin the IIIrd entries. The film is produced by TMS Entertainment and animated by Telecom Animation Film. The screenplay is written by Yuya Takahashi, with James Shimoji composing the music and Katsuhito Ishii serving as creative advisor. TOHO NEXT will distribute the film.
Theme Song
The film’s main theme song, “The IIIRD Eye,” is performed by the Japanese rock band B’z.
A Prequel to Set the Stage
Before the theatrical premiere, a prequel titled Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin (“Zenigata and the Two Lupins”) will be available on streaming services in Japan starting June 20, 2025. This prequel focuses on Inspector Zenigata and features a “hard-boiled action tale” involving a terrorist bombing and a confrontation with a fake Lupin, voiced by Kenyu Horiuchi.
Lupin the 3rd: A Legacy of Adventure
The Lupin the 3rd franchise began in 1967 with a manga created by Monkey Punch. The first anime series adaptation aired in 1971, and since then, there have been numerous manga series, anime films, OVAs, crossovers, and even a 3DCG movie. One of the most famous Lupin the 3rd films is The Castle of Cagliostro, directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
