The science fiction crime suspense anime series Your Forma aired its season finale, episode 13, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The series, an adaptation of Mareho Kikuishi’s light novel series, premiered on April 2, 2025, as part of TV Asahi’s “IMAnimation W” programming block.
Overview of the Series
Your Forma is set in an alternate 2023, where a revolutionary “smart thread” technology known as “Your Forma” has become an indispensable part of daily life. This technology, initially developed to combat a viral encephalitis outbreak, records every sight, sound, and even emotion experienced by its users. The narrative follows Electronic Investigator Echika Hieda, a prodigious detective who utilizes the Your Forma system to delve into people’s memories and uncover evidence to solve complex crimes.
Echika’s exceptional abilities often leave her human partners struggling to keep pace, leading to health issues. To address this, she is partnered with Harold W. Lucraft, a brilliant, blonde-haired, blue-eyed humanoid android known as an “Amicus.” Unlike other Amicus robots, Harold is not bound by the “Laws of Respect,” allowing him to act more like a human, a fact initially hidden from him by Echika. Together, this duo navigates intricate cases, delving into hidden secrets and confronting deeper conspiracies within a society heavily reliant on the Your Forma system.
The light novel series, illustrated by Tsubata Nozaki, began publication in March 2021 and has released seven volumes as of April 2025. It won the grand prize at the 27th Dengeki Novel Prize in 2021 and was praised in the 2022 edition of the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guidebook. Yen Press has licensed both the light novel and its manga adaptation for English publication.
Production and Reception
The anime adaptation of Your Forma was produced by Geno Studio and directed by Takaharu Ozaki. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handled the series composition and scripts, Chikashi Kadekaru was responsible for character designs, and Tatsuya Kato composed the music. The opening theme song, “GRIDOUT,” is performed by yama, while the ending theme, “NEO-LUDDITE,” is by 9Lana.
The series has been recognized for its engaging story and characters, with some reviewers drawing comparisons to Psycho-Pass. The intricate world-building, particularly regarding the futuristic concepts and technology, has also been noted by readers of the light novel.
The Season Finale: Episode 13
Episode 13, marking the conclusion of the first season, aired on June 25, 2025. The final episodes delved into Harold’s increasingly intense search for the killer of his “big brother,” Sozon, a victim of the “Nightmare of St. Petersburg” serial killer. The narrative revealed multiple layers of deception, with initial suspects giving way to the true culprit, Kupriyan Valentinovich Napolov. The finale explored the tension between Harold’s desire for vengeance and Echika’s commitment to justice, particularly given Harold’s unique nature as an Amicus not bound by the typical laws of respect.
One review noted that the anime adaptation’s decision to skip adapting the crucial first volume of the light novel may have hindered the viewing experience for those new to the series, potentially leading to a lack of character connection and squandering fascinating concepts. Despite this, the season finale aimed to bring closure to the primary conflict, leaving viewers to reflect on the complex themes of memory, justice, and artificial intelligence explored throughout the series.
