P.A. Works, the renowned animation studio behind critically acclaimed titles such as Shirobako and Angel Beats!, has officially announced a new original television anime series titled Towa no Yugure. The series is slated to premiere in October 2025, airing on MBS and TBS’ “Super Animeism Turbo” programming block. The project is credited to “Project FT.”
A Sci-Fi Romance Two Centuries in the Making
Towa no Yugure is described as a sci-fi romance that delves into themes of time, identity, and the evolving nature of human connection in a transformed world. The narrative centers on Akira Himegami, a high school student who awakens from a 200-year cold sleep to a drastically altered reality.
In this distant future, traditional governmental structures have collapsed, and urban landscapes lie in ruins. Society is now governed by a centralized organization known as OWEL, and the concept of marriage has been reshaped into a new system called “Elsie.” Amidst his confusion and attempts to grasp this new world, Akira encounters an android named Yuugure, who bears a striking resemblance to his former lover, Towasa. Unexpectedly, Yuugure proposes marriage to Akira, who, despite his bewilderment, embarks on a journey with the android, clinging to the hope that Towasa might still be alive. Their shared quest involves navigating the intricacies of a world with new rules for relationships and seeking meaning within their own burgeoning bond.
Key Talent Assembles for Production
The highly anticipated series boasts a strong lineup of talent both in its voice cast and production staff. Shūichirō Umeda will lend his voice to the protagonist, Akira Himegami, while Yui Ishikawa will voice the enigmatic android, Yuugure. Ai Kayano rounds out the main cast as Maki Towasa, Akira’s former lover.
Leading the production is director Naokatsu Tsuda, widely recognized for his directorial work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable. Yoshiko Saito is responsible for the character designs, bringing the world and its inhabitants to life. The musical score for Towa no Yugure will be composed by Masahiro Tokuda. With a compelling premise and an experienced creative team, Towa no Yugure promises to be a significant addition to P.A. Works’ portfolio of original anime productions.
