The highly anticipated CG anime short, Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express, a sequel to animator Yōhei Kameyama’s 2022 short Milky☆Highway, has released its second trailer, revealing additional cast members and its theme song ahead of its July 3 debut. The new short is set to premiere on Tokyo MX and will simultaneously stream on YouTube, with dubbed versions available in ten languages.

A Star-Studded Cast Joins the Interplanetary Journey

The second trailer for Milky☆Subway introduced several new voice actors who will be lending their talents to the animated short. Hisako Kanemoto, known for roles such as Zenith Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, joins the cast as Akane. Mikako Komatsu, who voices Fels in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?, will portray Ryōko. Kōki Uchiyama, recognized as Rin Itoshi in BLUE LOCK, takes on the role of Kurt. Makoto Koichi, known for playing Lloyd in I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince, will voice Kanata. Rounding out the newly announced cast is Yoshitaka Yamaya as Max, who previously voiced Itsuki Kawasumi in The Rising of the Shield Hero.

These new additions join the previously announced main cast members: Momoka Terasawa as Chiharu, a “super human,” and Anna Nagase as Makina, a cyborg.

A Classic Theme Song for a New Adventure

The second trailer also unveiled the anime’s theme song: “Gingakei Made Tonde Ike!” (Fly to the Galaxy!), a 1977 song by the popular Japanese girl group Candies. This choice adds a nostalgic touch to the futuristic sci-fi adventure.

The Plot: A Misguided Journey Through Space

Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express continues the imaginative world created by Yōhei Kameyama. The story follows super human Chiharu and cyborg Makina, who find themselves arrested for violating space traffic laws. Their sentence involves community service: cleaning an interplanetary train known as the “Milky☆Subway.” However, what begins as a simple task quickly devolves into chaos when the train unexpectedly rockets into deep space. The narrative promises a “never-before-seen space-train spectacle, powered by nothing but pure momentum,” emphasizing its unique and unpredictable nature.

The Visionary Behind “Milky☆Subway”

Yōhei Kameyama is the driving force behind Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express. He serves as the director, writer, and producer for the sequel. Kameyama also handled character designs, modeling, animation, and editing, largely by himself. The original Milky☆Highway short, released in 2022, was Kameyama’s graduation project for Kadokawa’s Vantan Game Academy CG Animator major and garnered over 6.75 million views combined across its English-subtitled and original versions.

The anime is set to premiere on July 3 on the Tokyo MX channel at 9:54 p.m. JST. It will also be simultaneously available for streaming on YouTube, with dubbed versions in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, French, Hindi, and Russian.
