The highly anticipated romantic comedy anime “Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian” (Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san), often abbreviated as “Roshidere,” has officially confirmed its second season will premiere in 2026. The announcement follows the successful broadcast of the first season, which captivated audiences from July to September 2024.

Awaited Return and Production Details

Fans of the charming series can look forward to a continuation of Alya and Masachika’s unique relationship in the coming year. The second season was officially green-lit for production following the season one finale, with Kadokawa making the formal announcement and revealing a new teaser visual.

The acclaimed animation studio Doga Kobo, responsible for the first season’s vibrant visuals and engaging animation, will return to produce the second season. There will be a change in leadership for the upcoming season, with Hiroshi Haraguchi taking over as director from Ryota Itoh. Yuka Yamada will assume the role of scriptwriter, also replacing Itoh, while Yūhei Murota is set to return as the character designer, ensuring a consistent visual style for the beloved characters.

Story Continuation and What to Expect

The second season of “Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian” will pick up directly from the light novel series, adapting the story from volume 4 onwards. This means viewers can anticipate the anime to delve into the light novel’s summer vacation arc, promising new scenarios and deepening character interactions. The original light novel author, SunSunSun, has expressed excitement for the upcoming season, hinting at various events during the summer vacation where the heroines will be seen in lighter, casual clothing, and some “dream-like moments.”

The story centers on Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou, affectionately known as Alya, a stunning half-Russian, silver-haired transfer student who is the top of her class and a student council accountant. Despite her popular and seemingly unapproachable demeanor, she harbors a secret crush on her unmotivated classmate, Masachika Kuze. Alya frequently mutters her true feelings for Masachika in Russian, believing he doesn’t understand her. However, unbeknownst to her, Masachika has a surprising grasp of the Russian language and quietly enjoys her flirtatious remarks, pretending to be clueless. This central premise provides the romantic comedy with its unique charm and comedic situations.

Key Characters and Voice Cast

The core voice cast members are expected to reprise their roles, bringing their characters to life once more. Sumire Uesaka will return as the voice of Alisa “Alya” Mikhailovna Kujō, and Kōhei Amasaki will voice Masachika Kuze. Both voice actors have shared their anticipation for the second season. Sumire Uesaka, as Alya, also performed the first season’s opening theme song, “Ichiban Kagayaku Hoshi,” and covered a different famous song for each episode’s ending theme. Other notable characters include Maria “Masha” Mikhailovna Kujō (voiced by Yukiyo Fujii) and Yuki Suō (voiced by Wakana Maruoka), who play significant roles in Alya and Masachika’s lives, especially concerning the student council.

The series is based on the light novel series written by SunSunSun and illustrated by Momoco, which began publishing under Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint in February 2021, following its initial run as web short stories in 2020. A manga adaptation by Saho Tenamachi also began serialization in October 2022. With over 500,000 light novel copies sold by August 2024, “Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian” has garnered significant popularity and critical acclaim, consistently ranking high in light novel guides.

As the 2026 premiere approaches, fans can stay tuned for more updates, including a more specific release date and further promotional material, which are anticipated to be released by the production committee. Crunchyroll streamed the first season and also offers an English dub, making it accessible to a wide international audience. The series promises to deliver more endearing moments and charming romantic comedy as Alya continues to hide her feelings, sometimes in Russian.
