Science SARU has officially unveiled a second teaser video and the definitive title logo for its upcoming The Ghost in the Shell television anime series, slated for release in 2026. The announcement was made during a panel at Anime Expo 2025.
The Iconic Title and Its Creator
The new television anime will be officially titled THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, aligning with the original manga’s title. Notably, the newly revealed title logo was designed by the celebrated artist Hajime Sorayama, known for his “Sexy Robot” series and intricate designs blending the human form with machinery. Sorayama expressed his deep respect and love for Masamune Shirow’s original work, stating his aim was to infuse his own aesthetic while remaining true to the core concept of Ghost in the Shell.
A Glimpse into the Future: Teaser and Visuals
The second teaser video provides an initial look into the series, featuring key animation and storyboards that hint at the unfolding drama. Alongside the teaser, a new visual illustrated by Shūhei Handa, the character designer and chief animation director, was also released. This visual depicts the cyborg protagonist Motoko Kusanagi and the AI tank Fuchikoma, deliberately evoking the spirit of Shirow’s original manga cover sketch.
Key Creative Team and Production Vision
The highly anticipated series will mark the directorial debut of Mokochan, who previously contributed as a storyboarder and key animator for works such as DAN DA DAN and The Heike Story. Esteemed science fiction novelist Toh Enjoe, known for his work on The Empire of Corpses and scripts for Godzilla Singular Point, is both writing and overseeing the series scripts. Shūhei Handa, recognized for his character designs in Little Witch Academia TV series and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, serves as the character designer and chief animation director, ensuring visual consistency and fidelity.
Producers on the project have emphasized their commitment to staying true to the essence of Masamune Shirow’s original manga, a vision echoed by the creator himself. Shirow Masamune commented on this new adaptation, acknowledging it as the fourth television anime rendition of his work, following previous iterations by renowned directors. He expressed his sincere hope that this new series will offer an enjoyable visual experience. The staff has indicated that the script is nearing completion, with storyboard work currently underway. The anime is being produced by Science SARU in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, and Production I.G.
