Aniplex of America has announced its plans to theatrically distribute “Clockwork Girl,” the inaugural installment of the Virgin Punk original anime series, in the United States. While a specific U.S. release date is currently “Coming Soon,” the film premiered in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025, and notably opened at #1 in the mini-theater rankings in Japan.
About the Anime
Virgin Punk: Clockwork Girl is an original anime film series created by director Yasuomi Umetsu and animation studio SHAFT. Umetsu is credited with directing the film and designing the characters, with Yuya Takahashi handling the series composition and screenplay, and Yoshiaki Dewa composing the music.
The story is set in the year 2099, a future where humanity has advanced significantly due to “Somadea,” a Medical Android Technology that has eradicated most injuries and illnesses. However, this advancement has also led to a surge in crimes involving the misuse of Somadea, which can be illegally modified to grant users superior physical abilities.
To combat these “Somadea crimes,” a Bounty Hunter System has been established. Under this system, registered civilian bounty hunters are authorized to eliminate illegal Somadea users designated as wanted criminals by the police, in exchange for substantial bounty money.
The narrative follows Ubu Kamigori, a bounty hunter navigating this harsh world. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she returns home to find Mr. Elegance, a figure from her complicated past, awaiting her. This encounter sets in motion a suspenseful action tale.
The Japanese voice cast includes Saki Miyashita as Ubu Kamigori and Katsuyuki Konishi as Mr. Elegance. An English-subtitled trailer for Virgin Punk: Clockwork Girl has been released by Aniplex of America.
