The Premise of “Mechanical Marie”
The story of “Mechanical Marie” centers on Marie, a human girl who, despite being a genius martial artist, takes on the undercover role of a “mechanical maid” in the mansion of Arthur. Arthur, the heir to a powerful conglomerate, harbors a strong dislike for humans. Marie’s mission is to flawlessly fulfill her duties while secretly protecting Arthur from constant assassination attempts. The narrative is filled with nerve-wracking thrills and close calls as Marie, utilizing her naturally expressionless face, navigates her double life and tries to prevent Arthur, who is smitten with her, from discovering her true human identity, which would lead to immediate execution. The manga, originally a one-shot in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine in March 2020, was serialized from June 2020 to June 2023, concluding with six compiled volumes. A sequel manga, “Mechanical Marie+,” began serialization in April 2025.
