The highly anticipated third season of the anime series Record of Ragnarok is officially slated to premiere in December 2025 exclusively on Netflix. This announcement was made during Anime Expo 2025, where a new trailer was also unveiled, offering fans a glimpse into the upcoming battles.
Production Shifts and Returning Talent
Record of Ragnarok Season 3 will see some notable changes in its production team. Koichi Hatsumi, known for his work on Tokyo Revengers, will take over as director, succeeding Masao Okubo. Yasuyuki Muto, who previously worked on Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway and Tokyo Revengers, is the new main writer. Character design duties will be handled by Yoko Tanabe and Hisashi Kawashima. Despite these changes, Yasuharu Takanashi will return to compose the music, continuing his role from the first two seasons. The animation production for the third season will be a collaboration between Yumeta Company and MARU Animation, a new addition to the production. Graphinica, which was involved in the earlier seasons, is no longer listed in the production credits.
The Continuing Saga of Gods vs. Humanity
The new season will pick up the epic saga of 13 one-on-one battles for the survival of humanity. A central focus will be the fateful seventh battle, which aims to break the current 3-3 tie between the gods and humans. The description from Warner Bros. Japan promises “intense battles of strong convictions”. Manga creators Shinya Umemura (story) and Takumi Fukui (story structure) have expressed their excitement for the upcoming season, particularly looking forward to seeing how battles, including Nikola Tesla’s techniques, are brought to life on screen.
The Record of Ragnarok manga, written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui with illustrations by Azychika, has been serialized in Monthly Comic Zenon since November 2017 and has sold over 18 million copies. The first season of the anime debuted on Netflix in June 2021, followed by the second season, which was released in two parts in January and July 2023.
