Production and Story Overview
Produced by Bones Film, a subsidiary of Studio Bones, the Gachiakuta anime brings to life the narrative crafted by author Kei Urana and graffiti designer Hideyoshi Ando. The story follows Rudo, an orphan living in the slums of a floating town, where the poor are marginalized and considered “tribesfolk” by the affluent society above. Falsely accused of murder, Rudo is cast into “The Pit,” a terrifying abyss below the city where discarded waste and mutated monsters reside. To survive and seek vengeance against those who wronged him, Rudo must master a new power and join a group known as the Cleaners, who battle the monstrous “trash beasts” of the Pit. The manga, which began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in February 2022, has been praised for its unique graffiti-inspired aesthetic.
