The highly anticipated anime film The Last Blossom (known as Housenka in Japan) has revealed additional cast members, key staff, and its opening theme song in a new trailer video. The film is set to premiere on October 10 in Japan.
Wright Film unveiled the main visual, along with the latest additions to the cast and production team, in conjunction with the trailer’s debut at an Anime Expo event.
Newly Announced Cast Members
The trailer introduces several new voice actors joining the ensemble. These include Hideaki Murata, from the comedy duo Toro Salmon, who will voice Hayashida, Akutsu’s henchman. Hiroki Yasumoto has been cast as Tsutsumi, Akutsu’s senior in the yakuza group, while Sōma Saitō takes on the role of Wakamatsu, Akutsu’s junior. Kōta Nakayama completes the new cast as Konishi, another of Akutsu’s henchmen. These actors join previously announced cast members such as Kaoru Kobayashi and Junki Tozuka, who portray protagonist Akutsu in his present and past, respectively. Hikari Mitsushima and Yoshiko Miyazaki voice Akutsu’s partner Nana Nagata, while Pierre Taki voices the titular Housenka flower.
Expanded Production Staff
The production team also sees new additions. The film’s newly announced staff members include Baku Kinoshita and Nana Harada for production. Eiji Tera is credited as Layout Animation Director, with Yuji Hosogoe, Kazuya Miyoshi, and Shuichi Shimamura serving as Animation Directors. The color design is handled by Haruko Nobori, and Honoka Satō is the Art Director. Kou Hoshina and Takahiro Hondai are the Compositing Directors of Photography, while Yoshiki Ushiroda is responsible for editing. Kōji Kasamatsu is the Sound Director, and Yōji Shimizu is the Recording Director. Finally, Kinue Itou and Ryoichiro Matsuo are listed as Production Producers, with Miracle Voice handling publicity and Pony Canyon in charge of distribution. Baku Kinoshita directs the film, with Kazuya Konomoto credited for the script and original concept. CLAP is in charge of animation production.
Opening Theme Song Revealed
The new trailer video also offers a preview of the film’s opening theme song, titled “Moving Still Life,” performed by the band cero. cero is also credited for composing the film’s overall music.
Film Overview
The Last Blossom tells the story of Akutsu, an elderly inmate serving a life sentence, who is on the verge of a lonely death in his cell. A talking Housenka flower prompts him to reflect on his past, particularly his life in 1986 with Nana and her son Kensuke, amidst a garden of Housenka flowers. The narrative explores the tale of a dying yakuza’s triumphant comeback and his family’s story, as told by the flower blooming in prison. The film was officially selected for the Feature Film Competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025.
