Kodansha USA’s K Manga subscription service has officially announced the acquisition of Suzu Kayukawa’s manga series, The Noble Student and His Cinderella (original Japanese title: Taishō Gakusei Aisai-ka), for English-language simulpub. The announcement was made via K Manga’s X (formerly Twitter) account on July 2. This move expands K Manga’s growing library of simultaneously released manga, allowing readers in the United States to access new chapters as they are published in Japan.
A Taisho-Era Romance Unfolds
The Noble Student and His Cinderella is a historical romance and slice-of-life manga set in Tokyo during the 10th year of the Taisho period (1921). The story centers on Fuki, a 24-year-old maid working for the distinguished Tachibana family. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she is reunited with Yugo, the Tachibana family’s son, who returns home to enroll at The First Imperial University.
The narrative quickly progresses as Fuki’s own engagement is dissolved, and Yugo is tasked with finding a suitable wife. In a surprising development, Yugo proposes marriage to Fuki. Despite the significant societal norms of the era, which required parental consent for marriage, and the notable disparity in both age and social standing between them, Fuki accepts. The manga then delves into the early days of their married life, exploring the unique dynamic between the admirable maid and the elite student.
K Manga’s Expanding Simulpub Catalogue
Since its launch in May 2023, K Manga has steadily increased its offerings, starting with approximately 400 titles, including 60 simulpub series. The platform was established by Kodansha as its first digital manga service outside Japan, aiming to provide direct access to its extensive catalog. The service utilizes a Ticket- and Point-based system for unlocking chapters, with some initial chapters available for free.
The addition of The Noble Student and His Cinderella further diversifies K Manga’s simulpub lineup, which already includes popular titles such as Rent-a-Girlfriend, Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest. Kodansha has expressed its commitment to continuously adding new content and bringing more new stories to U.S. readers as they are simultaneously distributed in Japan.
