Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced a special one-night theatrical event, “Sink Your Teeth: A Tokyo Ghoul Celebration,” bringing a compilation of key first-season episodes of the popular anime to select U.S. theaters on July 21, 2025. This event commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Tokyo Ghoul anime, which first premiered in Japan on July 4, 2014.
A Decade of Dark Fantasy
The original Tokyo Ghoul anime series captivated audiences worldwide with its blend of horror, action, and psychological drama, delving into themes of survival, identity, and the complex coexistence between humans and ghouls. To mark this significant 10-year milestone, Crunchyroll is offering fans a unique opportunity to experience pivotal moments from the series on the big screen. The celebration is part of Crunchyroll Anime Nights, an ongoing initiative that brings new films, curated episodes, and classic titles to theaters.
“Sink Your Teeth”: The Theatrical Experience
The “Sink Your Teeth: A Tokyo Ghoul Celebration” presentation is a compilation film, with a runtime of approximately two hours and twenty-six minutes. It features six carefully selected episodes from the first season of Tokyo Ghoul: Episode 1, 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12. This curated selection aims to provide both longtime fans and newcomers with an immersive experience of protagonist Ken Kaneki’s harrowing transformation and early struggles.
The film chronicles the story of Ken Kaneki, a shy college student whose life irrevocably changes after a deadly encounter transforms him into a human-ghoul hybrid. Forced to navigate a society where ghouls, who survive on human flesh, and humans are at war, Kaneki must confront his new existence and find his place in a world where it’s a constant battle of “hunt or be hunted.”
Attendees will have the option to watch the compilation film in either its original Japanese audio with English subtitles or with the English dub. Tickets for this one-day-only event are currently on sale through various platforms, including Fandango, and at participating theater chains like Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Landmark Theatres across the United States.
Celebrating a Legacy
The theatrical screening is one of several initiatives planned to celebrate the Tokyo Ghoul anime’s 10th anniversary. Other commemorative events have included a special exhibition, “Tokyo Ghoul EX. – TV Anime 10th Anniversary,” held in Tokyo and Osaka, featuring three-dimensional exhibits, interactive experiences, and dynamic videos. Additionally, a special collaborative music video for “unravel,” the iconic opening theme for the first season, was recently released. These efforts underscore the enduring appeal and cultural impact of Tokyo Ghoul since its debut a decade ago.
