The popular shojo manga series Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) by Mizuho Kusanagi has announced a three-month hiatus, with the next chapter scheduled for release in October 2025. Following the publication of Chapter 271 in the July issue of Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine, the series will pause serialization. Chapter 272 is slated to appear in the magazine’s 21st issue on October 3, 2025, according to Japanese time zones.
This temporary break comes as the manga approaches its highly anticipated final arc. Kusanagi confirmed in June 2024 that the series was entering its concluding phase, building anticipation for the story’s resolution. During the hiatus, Hana to Yume magazine plans to feature a “look back” into the manga’s extensive narrative to keep readers engaged.
The Yona of the Dawn manga, which began serialization in 2009, has garnered a significant global fanbase. It has inspired a 24-episode anime adaptation, multiple original anime DVDs, and several stage plays. Viz Media licenses the manga for English release in North America, with 44 volumes currently available, while 46 volumes have been released in Japan as of June 2025. Volume 47, rumored to be the final volume, is expected in Spring 2026 and may include a special art book.
While this is a current hiatus, Yona of the Dawn has experienced pauses in serialization before. Notably, the manga went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 due to the Kumamoto earthquakes, which affected mangaka Mizuho Kusanagi, who resides in Kumamoto Prefecture. The editorial department confirmed Kusanagi was not injured during that time, and the manga resumed publication after circumstances allowed.
This latest three-month break allows Kusanagi time to prepare for the grand finale of Yona’s epic journey, which centers on Princess Yona’s fight for her kingdom after a tragic betrayal. Fans eagerly await the manga’s return and the ultimate conclusion of this beloved fantasy romance saga.
