The series, produced by Science Saru, initially premiered in Japan on October 3, 2024, on TBS and MBS as part of their Super Animeism TURBO programming block. Netflix and Crunchyroll have been streaming the first season worldwide since its Japanese debut, with a second season having premiered on July 3, 2025. GKIDS also acquired the theatrical, videogram, and digital transactional rights for the series in June 2024.
About DAN DA DAN
DAN DA DAN is a “paranormal mystery battle & romantic comedy” that centers on Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura, nicknamed “Okarun.” Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, firmly believes in ghosts but dismisses the existence of aliens. Conversely, her classmate Okarun, an ardent occult fanatic, believes in aliens but denies ghosts.
Their contrasting beliefs lead to a bet, with Momo venturing to an abandoned hospital rumored to have UFO sightings, and Okarun exploring a tunnel believed to be haunted. To their astonishment, both encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that defy comprehension, forcing them to confront the reality of both spirits and extraterrestrial beings. Amidst these bizarre predicaments, Momo awakens a hidden power, while Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome the new dangers they face. The series intricately weaves together elements of occult battles, adolescence, and a budding romantic connection between the two protagonists.
The manga, written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu, has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service since April 2021. Viz Media publishes the manga in English, and it is also available digitally on Viz Media and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service.
