The highly anticipated second anime film for the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime franchise, officially titled Gekijō-ban Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Sōkai no Namida-hen (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Blue Sea Arc), is set to premiere in Japan on February 27, 2026. A new teaser trailer and visual for the film have been unveiled, revealing an original story that will delve into a fresh adventure for Rimuru and his companions.
The new cinematic installment will see Rimuru and senior Tempest officials invited by Heavenly Empress Hermesia of the great elven nation and sorcerer dynasty Sarion to a resort island. What begins as a relaxing vacation quickly takes a turn as a mysterious woman named Yura appears, hinting at a new incident unfolding within the vast blue sea. The teaser suggests a looming darkness and a new threat that Rimuru must confront, with the tagline “At the moment of awakening, a blue prayer connects feelings.”
Studio 8bit, known for its work on the television anime series, is returning to produce the film’s animation. The original plot concept for Tears of the Blue Sea Arc comes from Fuse, the author of the light novel series, who is also supervising the film. Returning cast members from the television anime are expected to reprise their roles.
This second film follows That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie – Scarlet Bond, which premiered in November 2022 and featured an original story penned by creator Fuse. The announcement of the new movie follows the conclusion of the third season of the television anime, with a fourth season also confirmed to be in production.
