While the specific release date of the final chapter was not immediately available in all search results, the previous announcement in January 2025 indicated the series was entering its final arc. A Look Back at the Series
Tales of the Kingdom (also known as Ōkoku Monogatari) is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Asumiko Nakamura. It has been published in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump magazine, targeting a seinen (young men’s) demographic. The series is licensed for English release by Yen Press.
The manga intricately weaves together distinct narratives within a fantastical setting. One of its central plots revolves around purple-eyed Adarte and blue-eyed Adolte, two individuals whose destinies are set to diverge despite a spiritual connection. One is depicted as a “graceful son” enveloped in light, while the other is a “prisoner” shrouded in darkness. Another significant storyline explores the relationship between a heroic king and his enigmatic aide, Shao, who hails from a distant land and whose path has led him to the halls of power, torn from his kin due to an enduring, albeit complicated, loyalty to his master. Nakamura’s work is celebrated for its unique and stylized art, often conveying a sense of ambiguity and relying on implication, contributing to a distinctive “vibe” that has resonated with readers.
As of January 2024, the series had compiled five tankōbon volumes in Japan. Yen Press has been actively publishing the English translated volumes, with the fifth volume released in September 2024.
