The limited sequel manga series, The Demon Prince of Momochi House: Succession (Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ōji -Tsugu-), is set to conclude with its next chapter, which will be published in the November issue of Kadokawa’s Asuka magazine on September 24. This marks the end of the continuation of Aya Shouoto’s popular supernatural shojo series.
A Brief History of Momochi House
The Demon Prince of Momochi House (original title: Momochi-san Chi no Ayakashi Ōji) began serialization in Kadokawa’s Asuka magazine in February 2013 and concluded in August 2019, spanning 16 volumes. Viz Media licensed the original series in English, releasing its 16th and final volume in October 2020.
The story centers on Himari Momochi, an orphan who inherits her ancestral estate on her sixteenth birthday. This mysterious Momochi House exists on the boundary between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is destined to be its guardian. However, upon moving in, she discovers three handsome squatters already residing there, with one, Aoi, having seemingly taken over her designated role as the Omamori-sama, the spiritual guardian of the house. The series blends fantasy, romance, and supernatural elements with a touch of comedy.
The Original Manga’s Conclusion
The original manga series saw Himari’s journey to save Aoi and navigate her destiny within the Momochi House. The ending of the original series involved Aoi returning to the human world to live with Himari, though not without complications. The concluding volume was noted for its emotional impact and for providing a satisfying resolution to the beloved characters’ story.
The Sequel: The Demon Prince of Momochi House: Succession
The limited sequel series, The Demon Prince of Momochi House: Succession, launched in July 2023. This continuation picks up years after the original, depicting Himari and Aoi living together. However, the tranquility is disrupted by the continued presence of mysterious beings from the spiritual realm finding their way into the newly acquired Momochi House. Kadokawa published the second compiled book volume of the sequel on January 24, 2025. Viz Media also holds the English license for this sequel.
Anime Adaptation and Other Media
The original The Demon Prince of Momochi House manga inspired an anime television series adaptation, which aired from January to March 2024. Produced by Studio Drive, the anime covered much of the manga’s early story, though with some differences in its ending. The series also inspired a drama CD and a stage play in 2015.
