The manga adaptation of Natsume Kurusu’s popular light novel series, A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans (Jingai Kyōshitsu no Ningen-girai Kyōshi), has officially concluded its serialization. The final chapter was published in the September issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The fourth and final compiled book volume of the manga is scheduled to ship on September 26.
The Story of Rei Hitoma and His Unique Students
A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans centers on Rei Hitoma, a self-proclaimed misanthrope who, due to past trauma, harbors a deep dislike for humanity. Despite his aversion, Hitoma takes a new teaching position in the mountains, hoping for a quiet, reclusive life. However, he soon discovers that his new workplace is no ordinary school; it’s an institution dedicated to teaching demi-human girls how to become fully-fledged human beings.
His class includes a diverse group of demi-humans, such as a mermaid, a werewolf, a rabbit, and a bird, all aspiring to understand and embody humanity. As Rei endeavors to teach them about humankind, he inadvertently embarks on a journey of self-discovery, confronting his own preconceived notions and potentially mending his jaded view of people. Yen Press publishes both the original light novel series and the manga adaptation in English.
Manga’s Journey from Light Novel to Completion
The light novel series, written by Natsume Kurusu and illustrated by Sai Izumi, first began publication under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint in February 2022. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Atsu Benino, launched shortly after in Monthly Shōnen Ace in August 2022. The manga’s conclusion brings an end to a series that explored themes of acceptance, self-identity, and the complexities of human (and demi-human) nature. While the manga concludes with four volumes, the original light novel series has released four volumes as of February 2025 and is ongoing.
