The anime is based on the light novel series Akujiki Reijō to Kyōketsu Kōshaku: Sono Mamono, Watashi ga Oishiku Itadakimasu! written by Kanata Hoshi and illustrated by Peperon. The series began serialization online in November 2019 on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website before being acquired by Kodansha, who began publishing it as light novels in April 2021. There is also a manga adaptation by Chika Mizube, which started in March 2021 and is published in English by Kodansha USA. The story follows Melphiera, an earl’s daughter shunned for her love of eating monsters, who finds an unexpected connection with the feared “Blood-Mad Duke” of Galbraith.
