Daisuke Miyata’s rugby-themed manga, Rugby Rumble (also known as Saikyō no Uta), is slated to conclude its serialization in just three more chapters. The announcement was made by author Daisuke Miyata on August 15.
Publication Details and Series Overview
The sports manga, which focuses on the world of high school rugby, is published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website in Japan. For international readers, Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service offers simultaneous digital English releases. Rugby Rumble first launched in September 2023.
The story centers on Kinzan Yamada, a first-year high school student and rugby novice, who joins the Rikuzen High rugby team. The team had adopted a more relaxed approach to training and competition, largely due to the formidable presence of the “Perfect Squad”—the Japan under-15 rugby team that had previously swept the world cup, disrupting the power balance in high school rugby. Kinzan’s arrival promises to shake up their laid-back attitude.
Shueisha is set to release the manga’s sixth compiled book volume on September 4, with the seventh volume following on October 3.
AI Lettering Controversy
Upon its English debut, Rugby Rumble faced criticism on social media regarding the quality of its lettering, which was attributed to the use of AI. This backlash prompted MANGA Plus to release an updated version of the first chapter with revised typesetting. Subsequently, translator Mei Amaki was credited as a letterer and editor alongside AI localization company Orange Inc. and Media Do. Later English chapters have credited Studio Mikan for translation and lettering, and Studio Mikan and Media Do for editing.
