The official staff for the new television anime adaptation of Shō Makura and Takeshi Okano’s Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube manga has announced that popular voice actress Ayana Taketatsu will join the cast. Taketatsu is set to voice a Zashiki-Warashi spirit, a benevolent entity believed to bring happiness, in the show’s ninth episode, scheduled to debut on August 27.
Taketatsu Joins Expanding Voice Cast
Ayana Taketatsu’s addition marks another notable name joining the rebooted Jigoku Sensei Nube anime. While specific details about the Zashiki-Warashi’s role in the ninth episode remain under wraps, the character is traditionally known as a house spirit in Japanese folklore. Taketatsu is renowned for her roles as Azusa Nakano in K-On!, Kirino Kousaka in Oreimo, and Nino Nakano in The Quintessential Quintuplets.
The Much-Anticipated Reboot Series
The new Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube anime premiered on July 2, 2025, with a one-hour special for its first two episodes on TV Asahi’s “IM Animation W” programming block. Subsequent episodes are airing weekly, with the series slated for two split cours, meaning the second half will air in January 2026.
Yasuyuki Ōishi (known for episode direction in Stars Align) is directing the series at Studio KAI. He is joined by assistant director Fumito Yamada, head writer Yoshiki Ōkusa (Butt Detective franchise), and character designer Yuu Yoshiyama (Dragon Ball Super key animator). Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) is composing the music for the series.
The production team previously revealed several other new and returning voice cast members for the reboot. Ryōtarō Okiayu reprises his role as the titular character, Meisuke Nueno, also known as “Nube,” a psychic teacher who uses his demon-possessed left hand to protect his students from supernatural threats. Other new cast members announced earlier in the year include Matsumi Fujiwara as Akira Yamaguchi, Ayahi Takagaki as Shuichi Shirato, Nao Toyama as Noriko Nakajima, Yui Makino as Shizuka Kikuchi, Shoji Inoyama as Katsumi Kaneda, and Miyuri Shimabukuro as Manami Kimura.
