The “Call of the Night -Paradise Arc-” (Yofukashi no Uta: Rakuen-hen) short manga, a side story to Kotoyama’s popular supernatural romance series, has officially ended its serialization. The conclusion was announced via the X/Twitter account of the editor for the short manga.
A Brief Return to the Night
The “Paradise Arc” launched in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine on July 2, 2025. This limited-run series was specifically planned to coincide with and promote the premiere of the second season of the Call of the Night anime adaptation, which began airing in July 2025. While the exact length of the “Paradise Arc” was not initially revealed, it was anticipated to be a short-term serialization, possibly spanning one to two volumes.
Unraveling a New Mystery
The “Paradise Arc” presented a fresh narrative angle, following protagonist Kou Yamori alongside his detective senpai, Anko. Their investigation leads them to a small town where they delve into a strange cult, with suspicions arising that vampires are intricately involved in its mysterious activities. This shift in focus allowed for new character dynamics and further world-building within the established Call of the Night universe, offering a different pace compared to the main series.
The Original Series’ Legacy
Kotoyama’s main Call of the Night manga, which inspired the anime, originally began its serialization in Weekly Shōnen Sunday in August 2019 and concluded in January 2024. The original series spanned 200 chapters, compiled into 20 tankōbon volumes by Shogakukan. Viz Media holds the English licensing rights for the manga in North America. The first season of the anime adaptation aired from July to September 2022, quickly gaining a dedicated fanbase for its unique blend of romance, urban fantasy, and slice-of-life elements centered around Ko Yamori’s nocturnal adventures with the vampire Nazuna Nanakusa. The manga was also recognized with the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2023.
The “Paradise Arc” served as a welcome return for fans, providing additional content and generating excitement for the ongoing anime series. Its conclusion marks the end of this specific side story, leaving the broader narrative to continue in the anime’s second season.
