Crunchyroll has released an English-subtitled trailer for Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved (Japanese title: Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū) anime film, confirming its North American theatrical release on October 20. The trailer, which dropped on Wednesday, features Sachiko Kobayashi’s ending theme song, “Bokutachi no Hibi” (“Days of Us”).
The highly anticipated film from Kyoto Animation premiered in Japan on June 27, 2025, opening at number nine at the box office. Crunchyroll previously announced its acquisition of worldwide theatrical rights for the movie (excluding Asia) and will screen the film as part of its “Crunchyroll Anime Nights” events.
A Deeper Look into Kanna’s Story
The new Miss Kobayashi‘s Dragon Maid film centers around Kanna Kamui, one of the beloved dragon characters. The story sees Kanna’s peaceful life with Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, and Iruru disrupted by the arrival of her father, Kamun Kamui, leader of the Chaos Forces. He demands Kanna return to the Dragon World to rectify a past mistake, sparking a brewing conflict between Chaos and Harmony. Kanna finds herself torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father’s demands, while Miss Kobayashi tries to mend their broken bond. As dragons clash, Iruru uncovers a hidden force manipulating the war, leading to a crucial fight to prevent both worlds from being consumed.
Returning Cast and Production Team
Kyoto Animation, the studio behind the popular TV anime series, is producing the film. Tatsuya Ishihara, who directed the second season of the TV anime, returns to direct the movie. Yuka Yamada is credited with the script, and Miku Kadowaki handled character designs and serves as chief animation director. Lantis and Heart Company are responsible for the musical production.
Most of the main voice cast from the TV anime are reprising their roles, including Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yuki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna. New additions to the cast include Fumihiko Tachiki as Kimun Kamui, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad, and Shiori Sugiura as Ilulu, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi.

The original Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid manga by Coolkyousinnjya is published by Futabasha in their Manga Action magazine, with Seven Seas Entertainment releasing an English-language version. Several spin-off manga series are also available, including Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Elma’s Office Lady Diary, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Fafnir the Recluse, and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid: Kanna’s Daily Life.
