Singer-songwriter Tani Yuuki will perform the new ending theme song, “Moshi Monogatari” (If Story), for the Doraemon television anime, marking the first change to the ending theme in 20 years since the series’ 2005 reboot. The new song is set to debut on October 4 in Japan.
This significant update comes after the long-running anime primarily featured “Odore Dore Dora Doraemon Ondo” by Doraemon’s voice actor, Wasabi Mizuta, as its ending theme for nearly two decades.
A Milestone for the Beloved Anime
The introduction of “Moshi Monogatari” is a notable event for fans of the iconic Doraemon franchise, which has captivated audiences across generations since its manga debut in 1969. The anime has seen multiple television series adaptations since 1973, with the most recent iteration beginning in 2005. While opening themes have changed more frequently, the ending theme has remained constant for an extended period.
The Enduring Legacy of Doraemon Music
Music has always been an integral part of the Doraemon experience. The original 1979 series featured the iconic “Doraemon no Uta” (Doraemon’s Song) which, despite being replaced as a main theme, remains widely recognized. The 2005 reboot introduced “Odore Dore Dora Doraemon Ondo” as its primary ending, which became synonymous with the series for a generation of viewers. This new ending theme from Tani Yuuki will now join the storied musical history of the franchise.
Tani Yuuki’s Personal Connection and Message
Tani Yuuki expressed his excitement and honor at being chosen to contribute to a series he grew up watching. He shared his desire for “Moshi Monogatari” to convey a message of inspiration to children, particularly encouraging them even when they encounter setbacks in life. This sentiment aligns with the overarching themes of friendship, perseverance, and problem-solving often found in Doraemon‘s stories.
