Tokyo, Japan – Renowned voice actor Ryōta Suzuki has been officially cast as the lead character, Shinigami Yashiro, in the upcoming supernatural action TV anime series, “Scum of the Brave” (Yūsha no Kuzu). The announcement, made today, October 11, 2025, also revealed a new teaser visual and character trailer for the series, which is set to broadcast in January 2026.
Suzuki, known for his roles as Yu Ishigami in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Ryusui Nanami in Dr. STONE, will lend his voice to Yashiro, a freelance hero characterized as apathetic and perpetually low on cash.

“Scum of the Brave” is an adaptation of a fantasy light novel series written by Rocket Shoukai and illustrated by Yuya Kusaka, which was originally serialized on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu platform. A manga adaptation with artwork by Nakashima723 is also published by Leed Publishing.
Plot Overview
The anime is set in an alternate 21st-century Tokyo, where powerful mafia members can transform into “Demon Kings” through highly popular “ether-enhancement surgery.” To combat these formidable foes, bounty hunters known as “Braves” (or “Heroes”) emerge, enhancing their own ether abilities using a drug called E3. The protagonist, Shinigami Yashiro, is an independent hero who primarily seeks the simple pleasures of life: pizza, beer, and card games. His life takes an unexpected turn when three young Braves offer him a significant sum to become their private tutor, drawing him into a whirlwind of dangerous events. The narrative explores a world where “heroism” has become a profession akin to legalized killing.
