The highly anticipated “Undead Unluck” anime is set to air a special one-hour episode on December 25, broadcast on MBS, TBS, and their affiliates. This extended special will introduce new characters and expand upon the beloved supernatural action series.
New Characters Join the “Undead Unluck” Roster
Fans can look forward to the introduction of two new significant characters in the upcoming special. Kenshō Ono will lend his voice to Tella, who is Billy’s subordinate. Additionally, Takehito Koyasu joins the cast as Balance, an original character described as a UMA (Unidentified Mysterious Animal) responsible for managing world balance. The inclusion of an original character crafted by series author Yoshifumi Tozuka for the special promises a fresh narrative direction.
Production Details and Returning Staff
The 1-hour special is being helmed by Sunghoo Park, known for his work on “Jujutsu Kaisen,” who will serve as director and handle storyboards at his studio E&H production. Yamato Haishima, returning from “Fire Force,” is in charge of the screenplay. Character designs will once again be handled by Hideyuki Morioka (“D.Gray-man”) and Shun’ichi Ishimoto (“Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan”). The series’ distinctive music will continue to be composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, known for his work on “Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-“. UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS is responsible for the production and planning of the anime, with animation cooperation from david production, the studio behind the first season.

What to Expect from the “Undead Unluck” Special
The “Undead Unluck” anime, based on Yoshifumi Tozuka’s manga serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, follows the chaotic adventures of Fuuko Izumo, an unlucky girl, and Andy, an immortal man who yearns for death. Their unique abilities lead them to an organization that hunts down individuals with supernatural powers, known as Negators. The one-hour special is expected to delve into an original story arc, further exploring the intricate world and character dynamics that have captivated viewers. The “Winter Arc” special, as it is sometimes referred to, was previously announced to premiere in Winter 2025.
The first season of “Undead Unluck” comprised 24 episodes, split into two cours. It premiered in Japan in October 2023, with the second cour airing from January to March 2024. The series is available for international streaming on Hulu and Disney+. Moe Kahara voices Fuuko Izumo, and Yuichi Nakamura voices Andy. Other returning cast members include Mariya Ise as Juiz, Rikiya Koyama as Billy, and Tomokazu Sugita as Apocalypse.
