Fans of the long-running mystery anime Detective Conan will have more cases to solve as Netflix and Crunchyroll are set to add a second curated collection of episodes, titled “Rivals of the Great Detective,” beginning November 1. This new selection will be available with both Japanese audio and English subtitles, as well as a brand-new English dub.
New Collection: “Rivals of the Great Detective” Explores Key Characters
TMS Entertainment announced the upcoming release, which focuses on various allies and adversaries of the titular young detective, Conan Edogawa. While specific episodes were not confirmed, the collection is designed to highlight significant interactions and conflicts featuring Conan’s supporting cast. This marks the latest effort to bring key moments of the extensive Detective Conan series to a broader international audience.
The new “Rivals of the Great Detective” collection follows the initial curated selection, “Conan vs. The Black Organization.” That first collection, focusing on the series’ primary antagonists, began streaming on both platforms on July 3, with an additional batch of episodes released on August 21. Both curated selections aim to provide both new and long-time fans with access to crucial story arcs, including episodes that were previously unavailable in the U.S. All these releases feature a new English dub, marking its debut on Crunchyroll for the TV series.
Expanding Detective Conan Content Across Platforms
Beyond the episodic collections, TMS Entertainment has also been running the “Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays” campaign on its “Anime! on TMS” YouTube channel. This initiative offers free weekly streams of Detective Conan theatrical films. Coinciding with the November 1 episode release, the campaign will add three more films to its lineup: Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century (movie 3) on November 1, Detective Conan: The Private Eyes’ Requiem (movie 10) on November 8, and Detective Conan: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (movie 7) on November 15. Several of these films are making their North American streaming debut in English via this campaign.
The Enduring Legacy of Detective Conan
Detective Conan, known as Case Closed in some English-speaking regions due to legal issues, has been a pillar of the anime and manga world since its manga serialization began in January 1994. The anime series, which first aired in January 1996, has amassed over 1,150 episodes, making it one of the longest-running anime of all time. Its continued popularity is a testament to its compelling mystery narratives, intricate plots, and beloved characters, appealing to both its shōnen demographic and a wider global audience. The strategic release of these curated episode collections and films on major streaming platforms like Netflix and Crunchyroll, alongside the YouTube campaign, underscores the franchise’s ongoing efforts to engage its existing fanbase and attract new viewers worldwide.
