New promotional clips have been released for “The Obsessed Anime Film,” known in Japan as Toritsukare Otoko, offering audiences a closer look at the highly anticipated musical movie ahead of its November 7 theatrical release. While the clips showcase the film’s protagonist, Giuseppe, and its musical numbers, they also provide glimpses of his pivotal mouse friend and narrator, Cielo, voiced by Hayato Kakizawa.
“The Obsessed” Nears Japanese Release
The animated musical film, “The Obsessed,” is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on November 7, 2025. Prior to its wide release, the movie was screened as part of the prestigious Tokyo International Film Festival, which began on October 27. The film, produced by Shin-Ei Animation and distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks, is an adaptation of Shinji Ishii’s 2001 novel, Toritsukare Otoko. Wataru Takahashi, known for his work on several Crayon Shin-chan films, directs the feature.
The story centers on Giuseppe, a man characterized by intense, short-lived obsessions. His life takes a significant turn when he becomes fixated not on an object, but on a person: Pechka, a quiet balloon seller. Giuseppe, aided by his “mouse friend” Cielo, endeavors to alleviate Pechka’s sadness by utilizing his past obsessions.
Cielo’s Pivotal Role in the Narrative
Cielo, Giuseppe’s intelligent and loyal mouse companion, is a central figure in “The Obsessed Anime Film”. The character not only acts as Giuseppe’s best friend and confidant but also serves as the narrator of the entire film, providing a unique perspective on Giuseppe’s whimsical, yet deeply empathetic, journey. Hayato Kakizawa lends his voice to the character of Cielo, bringing this crucial animal companion to life. Through Cielo, the film is described as taking on a light-hearted, almost fairy-tale quality, especially in its initial act, despite exploring deeper themes later on.
