Crunchyroll announced Monday a significant expansion to its recently launched Crunchyroll Manga app, adding 26 new titles in partnership with Titan Books. This influx of content further diversifies the platform’s digital manga offerings for subscribers in the United States and Canada.
The addition introduces a range of series, some of which feature anime adaptations already available on the Crunchyroll streaming service, aiming to provide a more integrated experience for fans. This move comes shortly after the dedicated Crunchyroll Manga app debuted in October, marking a renewed focus on digital manga distribution for the anime giant.
New Manga Titles Bolster Crunchyroll’s Catalog
Among the 26 titles now available on the Crunchyroll Manga app are several notable series. Highlights from the new selection include action-packed entries and fan favorites that span various genres. Readers can dive into titles such as ATOM: The Beginning, Burst Angel, Corpse Blade, Cosmic Censorship, Dopeman, and Farewell, My Odin.
Other additions further enriching the catalog are Gamma Draconis, Hen Kai Pan, Kamen Rider Kuuga, My Name Is Zero, Outsiders, Ryuko, Shadows of Kyoto, and Sherlock. Fans of more fantastical or unique narratives will find Somali and the Forest Spirit, Speed Grapher, Sword of the Titans, The Elegant Courtly Life of the Tea Witch, The Godless World of Onee-Chan, The Great Yokai War: Guardians, The Poetry of Ran, Toxic Super Beasts, Villain Actor, Welcome to Ghost Mansion, and Working for God in a Godless World among the new offerings. The title Yan also joins the expanding collection.
Several of these titles, like Burst Angel, Somali and the Forest Spirit, Speed Grapher, and Working for God in a Godless World, are particularly noteworthy as their anime counterparts are also available for streaming on Crunchyroll, facilitating an easy transition between animated and print formats for viewers.
The Revamped Crunchyroll Manga App Experience
The Crunchyroll Manga app, which launched on iOS and Android devices in the United States and Canada on October 9, followed by a browser version on October 15, is designed to be a premium, ad-free reading experience. It operates as a separate entity from the main Crunchyroll anime streaming service but integrates with existing subscription tiers.
Subscription Tiers and Access
Ultimate Fan subscribers ($15.99/month) gain access to the Crunchyroll Manga app at no extra cost. For those on the Fan or Mega Fan tiers, access can be added for an additional monthly fee. Specifically, Fan tier subscribers can add manga for an extra US$4.00 (CA$5.50), bringing their total to US$11.99 (CA$15.49). Mega Fan subscribers can add it for an additional US$3.50 (CA$5.00), totaling US$15.49 (CA$17.49).
App Features for Readers
The dedicated app boasts several features aimed at enhancing the digital reading experience. Users can enjoy mobile, tablet, and browser compatibility, allowing flexibility in how they consume content. Offline reading is supported through downloadable chapters, a convenient feature for readers on the go. The app also includes customizable light and dark modes, full-page spreads for an immersive view, and the ability to create personalized reading lists with recommendations.
The service is “powered by Link-U Group,” a Japanese media company known for operating various digital manga and webtoon services.
Crunchyroll’s History with Digital Manga
This expansion marks a significant step in Crunchyroll’s renewed commitment to digital manga. The company initially launched a manga service in October 2013, which included simulpublished titles from Kodansha USA Publishing in over 170 countries. However, that service saw a reduction in titles over the years, with some Kodansha titles being removed in 2018 and again in 2023, ultimately leading to the discontinuation of the first Crunchyroll Manga service in December 2023.
The new Crunchyroll Manga app, launched in October 2025, represents a fresh start with a dedicated platform and new partnerships. It launched with hundreds of titles from various publishers including Viz Media, Square Enix, AlphaPolis, COMPASS, and Yen Press, and continues to expand its library with collaborations like the latest one with Titan Books. This strategic move aims to solidify Crunchyroll’s position not only as a leading anime streaming service but also as a comprehensive digital hub for manga enthusiasts.
