The spinoff manga, Yūsha ga Shinda! Kami no Kuni-hen (The Legendary Hero Is Dead! God’s Land Arc), is set to conclude with the publication of its second compiled book volume. The series, a continuation of Subaruichi’s popular fantasy-comedy manga The Legendary Hero is Dead!, first launched in May 2022.
Spinoff’s Journey Nears Its End
Yūsha ga Shinda! Kami no Kuni-hen provided fans with further adventures in the world established by the original series. Its first volume was released on March 17, 2023. The manga, which began serialization in Shogakukan’s MangaOne app, expanded upon the beloved narrative of Touka Scott, the perverted farmer thrust into the role of the hero.
The spinoff’s run, however, faced an interruption. In April 2023, the series went on an indefinite hiatus due to the author, Subaruichi’s, health issues, requiring long-term rest. This announcement left fans awaiting updates on its return, and the subsequent news confirms the series will wrap up with its forthcoming second volume.
The Legacy of The Legendary Hero is Dead!
The original The Legendary Hero is Dead! (Yūsha ga Shinda! Murabito no Ore ga Hotta Otoshiana ni Yūsha ga Ochita Kekka) manga, written and illustrated by Subaruichi, captivated readers from December 2014 to December 2020. It was serialized on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday website and MangaOne app, accumulating 20 tankōbon volumes.
The series is renowned for its unique premise: an ordinary, slightly perverted farmer named Touka Scott accidentally kills the legendary hero Sion Bladen. To prevent chaos, the necromancer Anri Haysworth transfers Touka’s soul into Sion’s deceased body, forcing Touka to take on the mantle of the hero alongside Anri and his childhood friend Yuna Eunice to reseal the Gates of Hell. Its blend of adventure, fantasy, and comedy, often compared to series like Gintama for its gag humor, garnered a dedicated fanbase.
The popularity of the original manga further surged with an anime television series adaptation produced by Liden Films. The anime aired from April to June 2023, bringing the humorous and action-packed story to a wider audience.
The conclusion of the Kami no Kuni-hen spinoff marks another chapter ending for the franchise, as fans prepare to say goodbye to this particular arc of Touka’s heroic, albeit reluctant, journey.
