Unraveling the Premise of ‘Killed Again, Mr. Detective?’
A High School Detective with a Peculiar Ability
The story of Killed Again, Mr. Detective? centers around Sakuya Otsuki, a high school student who also works as a detective. Sakuya possesses an extraordinary ability: he can revive himself every time he is killed. This peculiar form of immortality allows him to take risks that no ordinary detective could, often using his own demise as a tool in his investigations to gather critical evidence or outwit criminals.
Sakuya and Lilithea: A Dynamic Duo
Sakuya is aided by his capable assistant, Lilithea, who is often by his side when he reopens his eyes after a fatal encounter. While Sakuya can be cavalier about his frequent trips to the afterlife, Lilithea acts as his pragmatic anchor, handling the real-world consequences of his power, from logistics to the disposal of his previous body. Their dynamic forms the core of the series, as they tackle various cases, from mundane affairs to more dangerous murder mysteries.
From Light Novel to Manga and Beyond
Before its anime debut, the Killed Again, Mr. Detective? series also received a manga adaptation. Illustrated by Inaba, the manga was serialized on Fujimi Shobo’s Dra Dra Flat brand from July 2022 to March 2024, concluding with two compiled volumes. Yen Press has licensed the manga adaptation for English release, with the first volume published in August 2025 and the second and final volume set for January 2026. Reviewers have praised the manga for its compelling adaptation of the core premise and the vibrant chemistry between the main characters.
The upcoming anime adaptation marks a significant milestone for the series, expanding its reach to a broader audience. Fans, both new and old, can anticipate an engaging adaptation of the supernatural mystery as Sakuya Otsuki continues to die and solve cases when the series premieres in April.
