Yama Wayama’s acclaimed manga series, Fami-res Iko., a sequel to her popular Let’s Go Karaoke!, is officially set to conclude with its second compiled book volume, which is slated to ship on March 12, 2026. The announcement, stemming from Amazon Japan listings, marks the end of a series that has charmed readers with its unique blend of humor and slice-of-life storytelling.
The Journey of Let’s Go Karaoke! and Its Sequel
Let’s Go Karaoke! (カラオケ行こ!, Karaoke Iko!), the original manga, was initially released by Yama Wayama as a doujinshi in 2019 before being officially published by Kadokawa Future Publishing in September 2020. The story centers on Satomi Oka, a middle school choir president, who finds himself unexpectedly giving karaoke lessons to Kyouji Narita, a yakuza lieutenant desperate to improve his singing for a crucial yakuza karaoke contest. The manga quickly garnered critical attention, placing third in the 14th Manga Taishō awards in 2021 and ranking fifth in the 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for female readers. Yen Press publishes the English translation of Let’s Go Karaoke!.
The Continuation: Fami-res Iko.
The sequel, Fami-res Iko. (ファミレス行こ。; lit. ‘Let’s Go to the Family Restaurant’), began publishing in Kadokawa’s Comic Beam magazine in May 2021, following a one-shot in November 2020. This series picks up with Satomi Oka as he moves to Tokyo for university, where he begins a part-time job at a family restaurant. Fami-res Iko. continues to explore the character of Satomi in a new phase of his life, maintaining the unique charm and observational humor that defines Wayama’s work. The manga has also received critical acclaim, being nominated for the 17th Manga Taisho Award in 2024, where it placed 10th in the final ranking, and ranking sixth in the 2025 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Female Readers division. The first compiled volume of Fami-res Iko. was released in December 2023.
Adaptations and Broader Impact
The popularity of Wayama’s work has led to multiple adaptations. Let’s Go Karaoke! inspired a live-action film that premiered in Japan in January 2024. Furthermore, an anime television series adaptation, produced by Doga Kobo, aired from July to September 2025, with Crunchyroll streaming the series. The anime adaptation of Wayama’s works also encapsulated Captivated, by You, another notable manga by the artist.
