Bandai Namco and developer D.A.G have officially announced that Tales of Berseria Remastered will launch on February 26, 2026, in Japan, with a global release for consoles and PC following on February 27, 2026. The enhanced version of the beloved action RPG will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, bringing the dark fantasy tale of Velvet Crowe to a new generation of players with significant visual and gameplay improvements.
A Modern Retelling with Enhanced Graphics and Optimized Gameplay
The remaster promises a high-quality retelling of Tales of Berseria, originally released in 2016 in Japan and 2017 worldwide. Players can expect enhanced graphics and optimized gameplay, with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions targeting 4K resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second. The Nintendo Switch version will support 1080p in docked mode and 720p in handheld, running at 30fps.
Beyond graphical fidelity, Tales of Berseria Remastered introduces several quality-of-life updates designed to enhance the player experience. These include useful features such as destination markers, the ability to disable enemy encounters for smoother traversal, and early access to the popular Grade Shop from the game’s opening. Additionally, the remaster will include various downloadable content (DLC) from the original release, offering a treasure trove of content like character outfits from previous Tales Of games and useful in-game equipment.
Delving into the Dark Narrative of Velvet Crowe
Tales of Berseria is celebrated for its mature and emotionally driven narrative, distinguishing itself with a darker tone compared to previous entries in the long-running Tales of series. Players follow the journey of Velvet Crowe, a young woman whose once kind demeanor is shattered by a traumatic event three years prior to the game’s opening, replaced by a consuming anger and hatred.
Velvet embarks on a quest for vengeance, joining a crew of pirates as they navigate the archipelago of the sacred kingdom of Midgand. The story explores the profound struggle between emotion and reason, challenging Velvet to uphold her convictions as the world around her descends into a system governed by rigid order. This compelling narrative, coupled with a diverse cast of eccentric companions, positions Tales of Berseria as one of the most memorable entries in the franchise.
The Original’s Legacy and Critical Acclaim
The original Tales of Berseria was an action role-playing game developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It marked the sixteenth main entry in the Tales series and served as a prequel to Tales of Zestiria. It first launched in Japan in August 2016 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, before arriving worldwide for PlayStation 4 and PC in January 2017.
Upon its initial release, Tales of Berseria garnered positive reception, with critics praising its captivating story, compelling characters, and refined combat system. The game features a variation of the series’ signature Linear Motion Battle System, dubbed “Liberation-LMBS,” allowing players free movement and camera control during battles. Players can freely choose “Artes” to suit their playstyle, perform various combos, and collect enemy Souls to unleash powerful attacks.
