Kodansha USA’s “Kodansha Print Club” program has officially announced the upcoming release of Hiroyuki’s popular romantic comedy manga series, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, in an English print omnibus format. The first 2-in-1 paperback volume is scheduled to debut on December 9, 2025. This announcement celebrates the program’s nearing one-year anniversary and addresses significant fan demand for a physical edition of the digital-first series.
A Highly Anticipated Print Release
Fans of Girlfriend, Girlfriend have long expressed interest in owning physical copies of the unique multi-partner high school rom-com. The series, originally serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from March 4, 2020, to May 24, 2023, garnered a strong following during its digital-first run in North America, which began in February 2021. The decision to release an omnibus edition underscores Kodansha USA’s commitment to bringing popular digital titles to print through its Kodansha Print Club initiative.
What to Expect in the Omnibus Edition
The inaugural Girlfriend, Girlfriend Omnibus, Volume 1 will combine the first two Japanese volumes of the manga into a single paperback edition. This 360-page volume will be rated 16+ and measure 5.75 x 8.19 inches. It will feature the beginning of Naoya’s perplexing romantic journey as he navigates a relationship with his childhood girlfriend Saki and a new confession from the sweet Nagisa, leading to his unconventional request to date both simultaneously.
The Story of Girlfriend, Girlfriend
Authored and illustrated by Hiroyuki, Girlfriend, Girlfriend explores the chaotic yet humorous life of high school student Naoya Mukai. After finally securing Saki Saki as his girlfriend, Naoya finds himself in an unexpected predicament when another girl, Nagisa Minase, confesses her feelings for him. Unable to lie and driven by an honest, albeit misguided, desire to make both girls happy, Naoya proposes a “two-timing but fair and square” arrangement, asking Saki for permission to date both of them. This bizarre premise sets the stage for a romantic comedy filled with misunderstandings, heartfelt moments, and plenty of laughs.
From Manga to Anime Adaptation
The popularity of Girlfriend, Girlfriend extends beyond the manga pages. The series inspired two TV anime seasons, which aired in 2021 and 2023, totaling 24 episodes. Tezuka Productions animated the first season, while SynergySP took over for the second. Crunchyroll streamed both anime seasons to an international audience.
Availability and Pre-orders
The Girlfriend, Girlfriend Omnibus, Volume 1 will be available at various bookstores and retailers starting December 9, 2025. Fans can already pre-order the first volume through major retailers such as Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, and Walmart, with more availability expected soon.
Kodansha Print Club’s Growing Catalog
The Kodansha Print Club program continues to expand its offerings, bringing more of Kodansha’s digital-first manga to print. In addition to Girlfriend, Girlfriend, December 2025 will also see the release of the third volumes for other Print Club series, including Love, That’s an Understatement, Teppu, and the finale of Blade Girl. Kodansha actively encourages fan feedback on which digital series they would like to see added to the print roster.
