Mikanuji, the acclaimed creator behind the popular yuri manga series Assorted Entanglements, has unveiled a new manga titled Tsukuru Niwa (A Garden for Creating). The fresh series officially launched on Tuesday on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype website, bringing a new narrative to readers following the conclusion of her previous works.
Diving into Tsukuru Niwa: A Story of Twin Caretakers
Tsukuru Niwa introduces readers to twin sisters, Hime and Yume, whose lives take an unexpected turn when their grandmother sustains an injury. This event thrusts them into the role of caretakers for a unique share house. The residence is home to an eclectic group of tenants, described as eccentric and not easily managed, yet all share a profound dedication to their individual passions. The series promises a blend of slice-of-life and character-driven storytelling, characteristic of Mikanuji’s nuanced approach to relationships and personal narratives.
The initial chapter’s color splash page notably features Tokyo Big Sight, a prominent convention center in Japan known for hosting Comic Market and various dōjinshi conventions.
Mikanuji’s Renowned Repertoire
Mikanuji has garnered a dedicated fanbase for her compelling storytelling and distinctive art style, particularly within the yuri genre. Her most widely recognized work, Assorted Entanglements (known in Japan as Fuzoroi no Renri), began as a web comic on her Pixiv account in 2017 before being serialized on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype in 2020. This romance manga series, which explores various women’s love stories, concluded its serialization in March 2025 with its tenth compiled book volume shipping on June 10. Yen Press has licensed and published Assorted Entanglements for English-speaking audiences, making it widely accessible.
Beyond Assorted Entanglements, Mikanuji’s bibliography includes Now Loading…!, released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment in 2019, and Senpai, Oishii Desu ka? (Senpai, does it taste good?), which concluded in August 2023. Yen Press also publishes her yuri anthology I Don’t Need a Happy Ending (Happy End wa Iranai) in English.
The Legacy and Future of Mikanuji’s Work
Mikanuji’s consistent output and ability to craft engaging, character-rich stories have established her as a significant voice in contemporary manga. Critics have praised her work, with Adam Symchuk of asianmoviepulse.com noting that Assorted Entanglements is a “sharp and witty series that fills that ever-desired role of exploring mature relationships” and doesn’t shy away from “difficult subject material to give a layer of realism.”
The launch of Tsukuru Niwa on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype continues Mikanuji’s collaboration with a major publisher, promising a fresh perspective and new dynamics for her readers to explore. Fans can anticipate the same depth of character and intricate relationships that have become hallmarks of her storytelling.
