The collaborative browser game Kami and Miko, a joint project by Real Escape Game producer SCRAP, Shueisha Games, and Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Oshi no Ko creator Aka Akasaka, is set to receive a one-shot manga adaptation. The announcement was made in this year’s 52nd issue of Shueisha’s Young Jump magazine, with the manga slated to debut in the magazine’s upcoming issue on December 4.
Rei Narahashi to Draw Kami and Miko One-Shot
The one-shot manga will be drawn by Rei Narahashi and will feature a color opening page. This expansion into manga comes shortly after the initial reveal of the Kami and Miko browser game, which garnered attention due to the involvement of the acclaimed manga artist Aka Akasaka.
Delving into the Kami and Miko Browser Game
The Kami and Miko game is described as a “world creation puzzle-solving” experience. In the game, players assume the role of “Kami” (which can mean “god”) and work alongside “Miko” (a term that can mean “shrine maiden” or also be a name) to solve mysteries. The narrative sees players guiding Miko, who is reincarnated through various eras, to overcome threats to humanity such as hunger and epidemics.
Aka Akasaka’s Role in Kami and Miko
Aka Akasaka is credited as both the scenario writer and character designer for the Kami and Miko browser game. Known for his popular works Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Oshi no Ko, Akasaka has shifted his focus to writing rather than drawing manga since November 2022. His involvement has been a significant draw for the game, blending his storytelling prowess with SCRAP’s expertise in puzzle-solving experiences.
SCRAP’s Expertise in Interactive Experiences
SCRAP, the producer of Kami and Miko, is widely recognized for its “Real Escape Game” experiences. The company has developed numerous escape rooms and interactive games based on popular anime and game franchises, including Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hunter x Hunter, Dr. Stone, The Promised Neverland, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Detective Conan, The Legend of Zelda, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. This background suggests a strong emphasis on engaging puzzles and immersive storytelling within Kami and Miko.
Shueisha Games’ Vision
Shueisha Games, established in February 2022, is a subsidiary of Shueisha, aiming to develop original games with concepts and character designs from manga creators, particularly those from Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The company also supports indie developers through its Game Creators Camp Project. Kami and Miko aligns with this vision, leveraging the talent of a prominent manga artist like Aka Akasaka for its game development.
The one-shot manga will offer fans a new way to experience the world of Kami and Miko and is anticipated to provide further insight into its unique “world creation puzzle-solving” premise.
