About Haibara’s Teenage New Game+
The anime is based on the popular light novel series penned by Kazuki Amamiya and illustrated by Gin, which began publication under Hobby Japan’s HJ Bunko imprint in December 2021. The story centers on Natsuki Haibara, a college senior filled with regrets about his unfulfilling high school days. In a fantastical twist, he inexplicably finds himself transported seven years into the past, one month before his first year of high school.
With this unexpected “new game plus” opportunity, Natsuki is determined to rectify his past mistakes, climb the social ladder, and ultimately win the affection of the girl he admires. The narrative explores his efforts to change his fate, utilizing everything from workout regimens and online guides to the support of a childhood friend.
The light novels are published in English by J-Novel Club, making the original story accessible to a wider international audience. The series has also inspired a full-color vertical manga adaptation illustrated by Misaomaru, which was serialized on Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire website from June 2023 to August 2024, with a sequel starting in December 2024. The ninth volume of the light novel series, which marks the beginning of its final arc, was released in July 2025.
