The Reluctant Hero’s Journey: “Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” Synopsis
“Let This Grieving Soul Retire!” (originally titled Nageki no Bōrei wa Intai Shitai: Saijaku Hunter ni Yoru Saikyō Party Ikusei-jutsu) centers on Krai Andrey, the perceived strongest leader of the elite treasure hunter party, “The Grieving Souls.” Composed of six childhood friends who vowed to become the world’s strongest heroes, their party effortlessly conquers dungeons and disasters.
The catch, however, is that Krai secretly possesses no special talents. His reputation for “unstoppable strength” and “nearly clairvoyant mind” is merely a misunderstanding, as his achievements are actually due to his incredibly overpowered friends. Despite his desire to retire early and his repeated attempts to leave the party out of fear that his ineptitude will one day endanger his companions, everyone around him believes in his fabricated genius. This leads Krai on a reluctant hero’s journey, filled with glory, headaches, and a constant yearning for retirement.
The anime, directed by Masahiro Takata at studio ZERO-G, first debuted in October 2024. Crunchyroll streams the original Japanese subtitled version, and now, the English dub, providing fans multiple ways to experience Krai’s comedic and often exasperating adventures.
