A Glimpse into the Virtual World: Trailer Highlights
The newly released main trailer showcases the film’s vibrant animation, distinguishing between the real-world scenes and the fantastical virtual realm of Tsukuyomi. Viewers get a taste of the dynamic character interactions between the titular Kaguya and co-protagonist Iroha Sakayori, featuring exaggerated movements and emotional expressions that inject energetic comedic moments. The trailer also provides a significant preview of the film’s music, a core element of its narrative.
Musical Landscape: Featured Songs and Vocaloid Producers
“Cosmic Princess Kaguya!” is designed as a musical fantasy, heavily integrating music into its storytelling. The trailer highlights two key tracks: “Watashiha Watashinokotoga Suki” (“I like who I am”), composed by HoneyWorks, and the main theme, “Ex-Otogibanashi” (“Ex-Fairy Tale”), composed by ryo (Supercell) and performed by Yachiyo Runami (voiced by Saori Hayami).
The film boasts an impressive lineup of renowned Vocaloid producers contributing to its soundtrack. These include ryo (Supercell), kz (Livetune), 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and Yuigot. Conisch is composing the overall score. Previously, a teaser trailer also featured a remix of ryo’s iconic 2008 Vocaloid song “World Is Mine,” with vocals by Saori Hayami as Yachiyo Runami.

Creative Vision and Production
Directed by Shingo Yamashita, “Cosmic Princess Kaguya!” marks his feature directorial debut. Yamashita is well-regarded for his work on opening sequences for popular anime series such as Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Chainsaw Man. He co-wrote the screenplay with Saeri Natsuo.
The film is a joint production between Studio Colorido and Studio Chromato, the latter being Yamashita’s own studio, and Twin Engine also contributes to the production. Character designs are handled by Akihiro Nagae, who worked on Drifting Home, for the real-world aspects, and illustrator Hechima (known for My Oni Girl) for the virtual Tsukuyomi world designs.
The synopsis describes a story where Iroha Sakayori, a 17-year-old high school student in Tokyo, finds solace in the virtual realm of Tsukuyomi, administered by Yachiyo Runami. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a mysterious Kaguya, who emerges from a telephone pole. Their musical partnership unfolds within Tsukuyomi, but ominous forces seek to return Kaguya to the moon.
Beyond the film, a manga adaptation by Tarō Yoneda is slated to begin serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comptiq magazine on January 9, 2026, with later chapters in Comic Comp. A novelization by Naruto Kiriyama, featuring illustrations by Asao Urata and additional scenes, is also set to be released by Kadokawa on January 30, 2026.
“Cosmic Princess Kaguya!” promises a unique fusion of traditional folklore, contemporary animation, and a rich musical soundscape, poised to captivate audiences worldwide when it launches on Netflix in January 2026.
